Many people want their religion and their local congregation to recognize their marriage and opt for a religious wedding ceremony. Some people who are not strongly religious also choose this option as they see it as an embodiment of the traditional way, and if they want a strictly traditional wedding then it is a must for them. Whatever your motivation, here is a look at what involving your religion in your ceremony may involve.

Your ceremony will be officiated by a religious official. The words that they say will include details of your faith and the meaning of your marriage in relation to it. Often there is little leeway for deviation from the script laid down by your faith, so you may find that you are not allowed to write your own vows or and any readings performed will need to be approved by the officiant beforehand.

You will find that these ceremonies usually take place in some sort of holy building. Some people even specifically choose to have this type of ceremony because they really like the venue itself. However, this may also be viewed as a potential limitation in your wedding. Instead of being free to shop around and find the best site for the occasion, you are bound to the one stipulated by your faith. Depending on the strictness of your religion, the officiant may agree to marry you in a different location, but as a general rule of thumb, rules on the venue apply.

These types of ceremonies are particularly good if both you and your fiancé have a strong conviction to your faith. You may often be required to be members of the same faith as well. Again this depends on how strict the religion you belong to is. For example, interfaith marriages are rarely permitted in Orthodox Judaism and Roman Catholicism.

You will also generally find that you need to be a believer in an organized religion. While a lot of people are, some people find that they are happier with their own personal belief system and create their own individual faith. If this applies to you, and you do not like the thought of a civil wedding ceremony, then it is often best to get married by a nondenominational clergyman, such as a Unitarian Minister.

A civil ceremony is one that is in accordance with your state’s legal system but does not involve any religion. If you are not a religious person, or you do not subscribe to any specific organized religion but have your own personally determined set of beliefs then this type of wedding ceremony may suit you.

This kind of wedding ceremony is officiated by someone who is legally allowed to do so. Typically this may be a judge, a magistrate, country clerk, town mayor, or notary public.

The ceremony details are prone to variation. The exact style of your ceremony often depends on your location. By and large they involve an exchange of vows followed by an exchange of wedding rings and then a declaration of marriage by the presiding officiant.

The great thing about this style of wedding ceremony is that it is relatively flexible. You can generally hold the event anywhere you choose. The words that are said by your officiant are often open to your input, and they are generally accommodating to couples that wish to write their own wedding vows. On the whole, assuming you can find someone to marry you to agree with your suggestions, you get to dictate the way the day plays out.

This type of ceremony may also be suitable for couples that have different religious backgrounds. If you belong to a faith that looks down upon cross-cultural or interfaith relationships then taking the civil route will avoid any problems you might face.

If you are planning on getting married at short notice, and your religious officiant cannot fit you into their schedule then this may also be an option for you. There is generally a wider choice of civil officiants so the possibility of getting someone to marry you with little notification is greater if you decide to go with the civil option.

Regardless of your size you should be able to find a selection of plus size vintage wedding dresses online and in your local wedding dress boutiques. If you can’t find a plus size vintage wedding dress that is right for you, you may want to consider getting one made for you. You can visit a wedding dress designer, take photos of what sort of styles you like and get one made for you that fits your womanly curves perfectly.

Here is an article about finding plus size wedding dresses:

Plus Size Wedding Dress - Feel Good
By Andrea Dilea

There are a lot of factors to consider when you are planning a wedding. How many guests will you have? What food and which cake will you serve? Where will you hold the wedding? It can all start to run together. It can be an added stress to try to locate a plus size wedding dress. As a bride you want to look amazing for your important day. This is a dream that is totally reachable even in a plus size wedding dress.

Not too long ago, there were no choices for ladies needing plus size clothes. Everything was about as attractive as a burlap bag. Even wedding fashions bordered on the unwearable. However, things have changed in the marketplace. The discovery of a large and thriving community willing to spend on quality has led to choice. It is no longer a chore to find the perfect plus size wedding dress in any style you want.

If buying off the rack is not your style you can also seek out a local designer or seamstress that specializes in making plus size clothing. An expert dressmaker should be able to advise you on the most flattering designs for your body shape and tailor a precise fit for your body. A unique dress design tailored specifically for you is guaranteed to make you look great.

You may find that your wedding budget can’t be stretched to include a custom gown. In that case, you’ll be happy to know that there is an alternative. You will find many gently used dresses in consignment shops. In doing so, you will be able to buy a gorgeous gown that’s only been worn once but for substantially less cost than a new one. Get out your phone book and contact the consignment shops located near you. You can find out what selection and sizes they have
available by phone which will help you save on both time and gas.

After exhausting these options without any luck, don’t give up. You could still make your own dress. All the major pattern lines now carry wedding pattern for women’s sizes. This way you can still have your custom made dress and all you have to pay for is the fabric and a few notions. If sewing is not your talent, take a good look at your family. Maybe someone could make the dress as your wedding gift.

Any bride nowadays is very lucky. She can look her most beautiful and feel good by selecting from various gowns in any gown store. It’s possible through the net also. Why not try it 6-month before the wedding date?

The term Bridezilla is thrown around a lot these days as Brides scramble to make their wedding day special.

There are however, some basic “rules” to follow while planning and executing your special day so that your guests will remember how kind you were instead of terming you a “Bridezilla”

1. You are NOT entitled to gifts. Sure it is assumed that you will receive gifts for your shower, and of course for your wedding. Accept these from your guests with grace by thanking them in person and most importantly by sending them a hand written thank you note as soon as you receive the gift.

2. If your wedding reception falls during a meal time, FEED your guests. You do not need to spend thousands on an elaborate five course meal, but serve your guests something to eat at your reception. Sometimes buffets are less expensive that a plated meal. You can also do a heavy appetizer reception. Check with the different venues you are considering for your reception to see if they offer an inexpensive meal or appetizer menu to give to your guests. This is especially important if you are serving alcohol. You don’t want your guests drinking with no food. If need be, cut back in other areas, such as center pieces or wedding attire in order to be a gracious Bride who thinks of her guests comfort.

3. Be kind to your wedding party. It certainly is an honor to be asked to be in your wedding. But understand that your Bridal party do have lives outside og your wedding. Try to plan dress fittings and such according to their schedules so that they aren’t taking time from their other commitments. Think of your Bridal party’s budget when selecting the attire they will wear at your wedding. Chooses attire that they can afford and maybe that they can wear to another occasion. If it is in your budget, ask if you can assist them in paying for their attire if necessary. Also take into account the different body types of the girls in your Bridal party. Let them have some say in the outfits as they know what they are comfortable wearing and what looks best on them. Be sure to graciously thank them for any parties or showers they may host for you. Consider taking them to a luncheon or dinner as a “Thanks” for all they have done for you.

4. On the day of your wedding and at your reception. Make sure that you and your new Husband take some time to visit every guest table to say hello and to thank your guests for spending you special day with you.

Being a gracious Bride doesn’t cost anything. It is all about considering your guests and wedding parties feelings and needs during your wedding. By being kind and thankful and considerate, you will be long remembered for being a gracious Bride.

The times when being an expectant bride was considered so very scandalous that there was this need to have it concealed, are now long past gone. Actually, according to statistics, in America, one out of every five brides is expectant on her big day. It is therefore not surprising that a growing number of companies are focusing exclusively on the requirements of expectant brides, by fashioning chic and fetching maternity wedding attire.

Companies are quick to grasp the fact that being pregnant in no way means that there should be drastic changes in the quality or design of your wedding dress. Simply on account of you being pregnant, the wedding does not lose its significance or uniqueness. It still is as special to you as it would be to a non-expectant bride.

Today, maternity wedding wear, as in the case with standard wedding attire, can make use of the four S’s to define them: Stylish, Sensual, Sensational and Sexy. Wedding outfits for pregnant mothers are these days attractively fashioned and are at times even made to order. They occur in wide price bands, from low-cost garments to shockingly expensive dresses.

However, one thing is for sure and that is the current fashion for maternity wedding dresses, is certainly not unexciting or monotonous. Many of the maternity dress styles are trendy, sassy, and cool, while at the same time being very comfortable to dress in. In any case, with pregnancy, comfy clothing is a major point.

There is a huge collection of designs in maternity wedding attire, and you will face no trouble selecting a dress that beautifully enhances your new curves and flatters your body. You can sport a chic wedding dress to accentuate your newly acquired bulge, your radiant complexion, and your enthusiasm; you will lend a completely new dimension to the expression “glowing bride”.

While selecting a wedding dress, particularly if the wedding is to take place within a month or two, you should opt for a style, which will make an allowance for your changing body shape.

All through your pregnancy, you body will balloon in ways in which you never could imagine, and you will wish your maternity wedding attire, fits you perfectly on your wedding day.

Go in for one size bigger and always see that there is a dependable dressmaker readily available in case of any final adjustments to be made. If you do not wish to reveal your pregnancy, a slightly larger size dress will tend to conceal your bulge as will a magnificent bouquet.

A majority of the maternity wedding attires are styled to enhance your new rounded figure. There are certain dresses that highlight the bust or the shoulders. Hence, if you have terrific shoulders or are very pleased with your breasts, you should select a design, which displays them to perfection. However, here is a piece of advice regarding flaunting your breasts. Revealing a bit of cleavage is acceptable. However, appearing as though you would at any moment fall out of the dress is just not done.

Widely preferred wedding gown designs for expectant brides consist of A-line dresses, princess lines, or empire lines. Now, these styles gently spread out from the bust, presenting enough space for your growing bump. At times, you can add a chiffon over layer to soften the plain lines of the maternity outfit.

Whichever design of maternity wedding attire you select, bear in mind that looking good from the back is as vital as looking good from the front. Now, during the wedding service, your back will be to everyone and therefore you would wish it appeared very attractive.

Flowers play a very important part in a wedding, whether the ceremony is big or small, expensive or inexpensive, at home or at a chosen destination; so, it would be wise for a bride to put her time and energy into choosing the perfect flowers for her wedding. Think about it…have you ever been to a wedding that did not include flowers in some form? Even in a very simple and intimate ceremony, the bride will carry some sort of flower, even if it is a single stem, or she might wear a flower in her hair. And, what would a ceremony be without a boutonniere on the groom’s lapel!

As a Certified Wedding Coordinator, I have worked with many florists, and they all agree that a knowledgeable bride ends up being a happy bride. The initial meeting with the florist will go much smoother if you bring with you a list of your favorite flowers and those you definitely want to include in the wedding. You and the florist can then go through the list and choose the flowers that will be available at the time you have scheduled the event. Below are a few more tips and tricks that I have learned along the way. I hope they help you as well:

Not all flowers can be used year-round, but the most popular ones can! These include roses, orchids, lilies (calla), gerber daisies, chrysanthemums, freesia, iris, alstromeria, and stephanotis.
Start looking at bridal magazines a year or so in advance if possible. This way you will be able to see an entire year of seasonal bouquets and arrangements. Save pictures of the ones that you are most fond of!
Consider the place where your flowers will be displayed. For example, if your ceremony site is colorful and beautiful in its own right, you may not need to add more color with flowers. Instead, choose flowers that are more natural and will not distract from the beauty of the site.
Save money on arrangements at the reception by interspersing tables with flowers on them and tables with candles on them. This also makes for more visual interest.
Don’t worry about having your bridesmaids bouquets match yours or each others, for that matter. Have fun with it! Mix and match! One of my favorite looks right now is having bouquets graduate in color from darkest to lightest. (The lightest being the bride’s bouquet.)
Incorporate elements of your style into the arrangements! For instance, if you love diamonds and ice…add crystals to your arrangement. If you love the outdoors, go with feathers.

The bottom line is that choosing the right flowers for your wedding can be fun! Take as much time choosing your wedding flowers as you did choosing your wedding dress and it will pay off!

Once upon a time, several decades ago, I spent more for my wedding dress than I’d ever paid for a single article of clothing in my entire life. Including tax, it came to a whopping $200.34! Back then, it seemed extravagant for a dress I knew I would only wear for a few hours. Today, according to the Conde Nast Bridal Group, the average price for a wedding gown is $887.00, with designer wedding dresses reaching into several thousands of dollars.

No wonder the cost of getting married continues to spiral upwards. And no wonder many smart brides are opting to buy a pre-owned wedding dress. If you think about it for a minute, it really makes good sense. Why do women feel the need to own their wedding dress when it’s not only acceptable, but downright expected that men will only rent their wedding day garments?

Perhaps this made sense ‘back in the day’ when a wedding dress was passed down from mother to daughter, over and over again. But in today’s society, how often do you see a woman wearing her mother’s wedding dress? Even three decades ago, when we still chiseled on stone tablets, I didn’t want to wear my mother’s wedding dress. It just looked ‘old’ and I wanted something new to wear as I started my new role as a wife.

Today’s bride to be has many options not available to brides of yesteryear. Today’s bride can choose to rent her wedding gown, or buy one gently worn by a previous bride. And thanks to the internet, even brides in remote areas have access to a multitude of gorgeous pre-owned wedding gowns, or in some cases, new gowns that were never worn at all. Sadly, not all weddings actually take place.

I even heard a story of one bride who ended up with four wedding dresses because she couldn’t make up her mind and didn’t want any of them to get away from her before she had time enough to decide. She knew she could turn around and sell the ones she didn’t want! There are a number of online wedding sites that will post your wedding dress for sale at no charge, taking a small fee only if and when your dress sells.

Shopping for your wedding dress online, while very convenient, does have a few guidelines you need to remember.

1. Not all pre-owned wedding dresses are ‘used’. As I mentioned earlier, some dresses were bought, but for whatever reason, were never worn. You may find the biggest savings on those dresses that were actually worn for a few hours.

2. Unfortunately, not every pre-owned wedding dress advertisement online is 100% completely honest. Have an idea about the retail value of the dress you’re considering to determine if you’re getting a true bargain.

3. When shopping for a pre-owned wedding dress, be sure there are numerous pictures of the dress from several different angles. You’ll want to at least see the dress from the front and back and if there are close-ups of intricate lace patterns or beadwork, even better!

4. Be careful about size. Wedding dresses, for reasons I cannot fathom, tend to run small. If you’re in between sizes, the safer option is to get the larger size. Remember to ask the seller if the dress has already been altered, and how much, to better gauge whether the dress is suitable for your body type.

5. Be sure to ask the seller if the dress has been cleaned and about any stains that may be left on the dress. Brides tend to be a little careless at times, knowing they’ll never wear the dress again, and you don’t want to be surprised with dirt or grass stains around the hem…or anywhere else. Tip: Don’t forget to ask about underarm perspiration stains!

6. If alterations or cleaning will have to be done on your part, consider those costs when determining if the dress you’re considering will still be a great deal. Depending on how much altering needs to be done, it can become pricey and cleaning can run as much as $100.

7. Finally, be smart with online shopping. Make sure it’s a secured site before entering any credit card information. You can tell by looking for ‘https’ in the address bar, instead of the usual ‘http’. Another advantage of using your credit card is in the event you never receive your dress or it looks nothing like the pictures, you can dispute the charges. If you’re dealing with an individual seller, consider paying with PayPal; they have a dispute resolution center to help resolve any issues you may encounter.

Buying your pre-owned wedding dress online has many advantages and can save time and money, precious commodities when you’re busy planning a wedding. Keeping these guidelines in mind as you shop can help make purchasing your wedding dress online a pleasurable event.

It looks like waist-lines are back in this year for wedding dresses. I say about time!
I am glad to see a move away from the wedding dresses that give no real shape.
The trend in 2008 is for dresses with soft, full, graceful lines that flatter waist and bust lines.

Necklines are once again being lowered, to show off more of the neck and shoulder area.
“Bling” seemed to be the in-thing last year in jewellery and clothes. This bling is starting to appear in the fabrics used in wedding dresses as well.

Metallics, satin and lace all seem to be making an impact. Silver and bright colored fabrics are also becoming popular.

The trend for wedding bouquets in 2008 is also bright colors and bling. The trend is to add some crystals to your bouquet. They add sparkle, shine and class to any wedding bouquet.
The crystals being used come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

The popular colors for wedding bouquets this year are purples, reds, yellows and oranges.
Nice bright vibrant colors that will look fantastic and stand out.

Another trend that seems to be catching on is green weddings….

But didn’t I just say the popular colors were purples, reds, yellows, and oranges?

A green wedding doesn’t actually refer to the colors being used! It means that people are thinking about the environment, and having a wedding that impacts less on the Earth.
As we become more aware of our impact on the environment our choices of what we do count. So a lot of couples are going green.

In practical terms, this means that people are choosing to have their weddings out-doors rather than in a venue. And they are using less throw-away items, and using things that can be recycled. Receptions are being held out-doors, so they can use the sun for lighting.

The wedding trends for 2008 look quite exciting, and I’m sure a lot of people are going to have some fantastic weddings…

Finding the right wedding dress can be hard work. In this day and age there are many choices - maybe too many choices. It may be overwhelming trying to decide where to start in your search for that perfect gown.

To try to ease your stress listed below are the eight steps to finding the right wedding dress.

Step 1 - Get Started Right Now

Don’t procrastinate with finding your wedding dress. This is one area of your wedding planning that you can not put off. It may not seem like a big deal at first, but many brides have a lot of difficulty finding the right one.

You also want to make sure you leave enough time to have any alterations completed.

Step 2 - Research

The next step in your quest is to do extensive research. There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of choices, so this could take some time.

Get online and start searching websites. Create a spreadsheet or other list of the styles and designers that you like. Also, make a list of bridal shops in your area. You will need these lists later on.

Step 3 - Set Your Budget

Wedding dress prices range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. Be realistic while doing your research, and only add the gowns to your list that are in your price range.

If your budget is tight, you may want to consider renting a dress. This is becoming very popular, and you will be able to potentially save hundreds of dollars. Used wedding dresses are another option. Look online and in second hand clothing stores for dresses at a deep discount.

Step 4 - Narrow Down Your Choices

Come up with a short list of your top choices, meaning your top three to five picks. Find out all you can online about the designer and what websites and bridal shops carry each dress.

Step 5 - Get Your Measurements

Visit a local bridal shop and have them take your measurements. Write them down and keep them with you as you continue your search.

While you are there try on several different styles of dresses to find out what looks best and feels best on. Also, write down or make a mental note of the prices for the gowns on your short list. When you get home add all of your findings to your spreadsheet or list.

Step 6 - Make A Decision

This is easier said than done sometimes, however, at some point you need to make a decision. If you have to, go out to a bridal shop again and try on your dress.

Step 7 - Find The Best Price

Now that you have made your decision (wasn’t that easy?), you can now shop for the best price. Over the last few years bridal shops have caught on and are now matching or beating online prices. However, you should definitely look online to see if you can get a better deal.

One thing to consider is alterations. You will most likely need them in some form, so if you buy your wedding dress online make sure you have a seamstress lined up to do your alterations.

Step 8 - Purchase Your Dress

You have done your research and found the perfect dress at the perfect price, so go ahead and buy it!

While a traditional wedding in your hometown is wonderful for a multitude of reasons, many couples would rather opt for something more unique. One option is having a destination wedding. In recent years, these have become increasingly popular with some reports indicating that up to 20% of all weddings are now destination weddings.

A destination wedding is a wedding that takes place in an out-of-town location. Examples include a wedding on the beach in Mexico, a wedding aboard a luxury cruise ship or a wedding at a extravagant Caribbean resort. Virtually any place you can think of can host a wedding. Some couples have even decided to have their wedding underwater!

Destination weddings have many favorable aspects. You and your guests will never forget the experience of your wedding because it will be held in an exotic, out of the ordinary locale and serve as a vacation for everyone involved.

Because these have become so popular recently, many resorts now offer destination wedding packages, which include accommodations for the bride and groom, as well as all wedding ceremony and reception services, complete with a wedding coordinator. When you are planning a wedding, a wedding coordinator who is located in your destination is a necessity. Having someone who is familiar with the local vendors and resources in the area will make the wedding planning go much smoother than trying to handle the planning from a long distance.

Another great thing about a destination wedding is that it can help alleviate any family tensions that may exist in more traditional wedding planning. If the bride’s family wants the wedding to be in one location and the groom’s family wants the wedding to be at a different location, there is oftentimes family conflict and stress. With a destination wedding, you can offer both sides a unique compromise.

While a destination wedding can be an amazing experience, there is also a downside. With the average wedding cost in the United States estimated at over $30,000, certainly a wedding package will be considerably less for the bride and groom. However, there are still some monetary concerns.

If a couple decides to pay for the travel and accommodations for all their wedding guests, those costs can add up quickly. Because of this, the guest list for destination weddings tends to be much smaller than for other weddings. Also, if the couple cannot afford to contribute to the travel expenses for their wedding guests, many people may be forced to miss the wedding altogether if they do not having the funds necessary or time available to make the trip.

Another aspect about destination weddings that a bride may find difficult is her role in regards to the actual wedding planning will be significantly reduced. Because the bride does not live near the location of the wedding, she will have to have complete trust in the wedding coordinator to make the right decisions concerning vendors and other planning details. Some brides who love to micro-manage will find this situation impossible to deal with.

If you are getting married, consider all the positives and negatives of having a destination wedding. While a destination wedding isn’t right for many couples, it could be perfect for you.
