DIY Wedding Tips on How to Plan a Wedding

Weddings can be very expensive so if you are on a tight budget, you will want to save money where you can. I planned my own wedding and was very pleased with the results. I did a lot of the work myself and saved a ton of money. Here are just a few ideas that you may find helpful on how to plan a wedding.

Chocolate Wedding Favors

You can easily make your own chocolate wedding favors and it will look like you spent a fortune. All you need are chocolate molds, quality chocolate compound (not real chocolate, unless you want to temper it), cellophane bags, ribbon and computer-printed tags. You could also package chocolates in confectionery boxes. There are many companies online where you can purchase beautiful, decorative boxes.

Truffle Bar

Why not make your own hand-dipped chocolate truffles? They are so easy to make and it will make a big impression on your guests. Mix up several batches of truffles one day and then plan a day to have your bridal party help you shape them and dip them. You can store them for a couple of weeks in the fridge. Place each truffle in a paper cup and arrange them on pretty platters to serve at the reception. You may have to work out some serving details with your caterer.

Unbelievably Delicious Chocolate Truffles   2/3 cup heavy cream8 ounces best quality semisweet chocolate3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Melt the chocolate slowly over warm water in a double boiler. (Do not let water come in contact with the melting chocolate). Place the cream in the bowl of a food processor or blender. Turn on the machine and then add the melted chocolate, butter and vanilla. Mix until very well blended and smooth.

Pour the mixture in a bowl and refrigerate until cold and firm. Depending on how much you make, this could take at least 12 hours.

Shape the mixture into balls using a melon baller. Place on waxed paper.

To finish the truffles, dip them in melted chocolate or roll them in nuts. Get creative and make them look pretty.

Note: Before you make a huge amount of truffles, do a test run with this recipe so that you will know what you are doing. If you have trouble with the dipping chocolate, you may need to use a chocolate compound that does not require tempering. Also, be careful in hot weather. They melt very easily.

              Arrange your Own Flowers

You can check out a book on flower arranging and do the work yourself. If you use silk flowers you can make the arrangements weeks or months in advance. Ask local craft stores if they will give you a volume discount or look online for wholesale flowers. You can buy large decorative planters from your local home improvement store to arrange the flowers in. (You can re-use these later). If you don’t like the color of the pot, paint it!

Embellish a Plain Dress

Craft stores sell beautiful embellishments for wedding dresses. You can get everything you need to make a plain dress look beautiful.
