Choosing the Right Wedding Photographer

Choosing the right wedding photographer has a lot to do with the success of your wedding day. Your photographs are the way that you will remember your wedding, and what you will pass down to others. If you don’t have quality wedding photographs, you will only have your memories of the wedding, which don’t last as long and are hard to show.

After reviewing many tips from professional wedding photographers, the most important element seems to be how well you get along with your photographer. If you can laugh and be comfortable around him or her, your true emotions will show throughout your wedding day naturally, which he or she will be able to capture. When interviewing photographers, be sure to ask the following questions so that you know what you are getting for your money.

• Can you show me more than one complete wedding that you’ve done?

• Is this work all yours or is it a compilation of work from more than one photographer?

• Are you the only wedding photographer in this company or do you use freelance wedding photographers?  Is there a guarantee that you will be the one photographing my wedding, if so can I get that written in the contract?

• Do your packages include more than one photographer or an assistant? If not, is there an extra fee for a second wedding photographer or an assistant?

• What kind of cameras do you use? Do you use film based or digital cameras or a combination of both? How many cameras do you use (in case something breaks)?

• Do you offer traditional wedding photography, wedding photojournalism, or both?

• Is color and B/W photography included or is there an extra fee for B/W? Do you offer hand coloring for B/Ws, digital coloring for B/Ws or digital color separation? If so, are these services included in your packages or do you charge a fee for these?

• Is all day coverage included in your package or is there an extra fee for it? Are you willing to come  early to get shots before the ceremony if we choose to do that? Would there be a fee for this?

• Do you charge a fee if the wedding and reception are in more than one location? What if we want to go to a third location for pictures?

• What types of albums do you offer?

• How long will it take to get the prints?

• Do you offer a website and CD of my images? If so, is this included in the packages or this is an extra fee?

• If your packages do not meet what we are seeking, would you be willing to customize a package for us that is within our budget?

• Do you have a client that I can talk with about their experiences?
