Parachute Wedding Dress at Smithsonian
Every wedding has it’s own flavor, theme, memories, meanings and so on. Trying to find the right theme and tie in special meanings for the most precious memories is something every bride thinks (and gets stressed) about beforehand.
I’m not sure this example would be acceptable today, but if it was the dress design would definitely be different.
This 1940s dress was made from the parachute that saved the grooms life in WWII. The groom’s plane caught fire returning home from a bombing raid and the crew bailed out. He landed and slept wrapped in his parachute for the night until he could be rescued. He then returned home with this parachute and used it to propose to his wife. She then made it into her wedding gown.
